Nokia eyes Juniper to expand networks business - report
Nokia is considering buying Juniper Networks to expand its Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) division, reports Germany's 'Manager magazin' citing unnamed sources. NSN CEO Rajeev Suri is understood to have travelled to the US at end-2013 to discuss a closer partnership and possible merger with Juniper's management. The company earlier considered pursuing a link-up with Alcatel-Lucent, but abandoned the plans. NSN will become Nokia's main business following the sale of its handset activities to Microsoft.

Nokia and Alcatel-Lucent confirmed they are in advanced talks on a potential merger. The offer would take the form of a public bid by Nokia for Alcatel-Lucent. Juniper Networks realiseert tien procent meer omzet

Juniper Networks heeft over het eerste kwartaal van dit jaar een omzet gerealiseerd van bijna 1,2 miljard dollar, een stijging  van tien procent op jaarbasis. Op kwartaalbasis daalde de groei echter, met acht procent. De nettowinst steeg ten opzichte van vorig jaar met 22 procent naar ruim 110 miljoen dollar. De operationele marge bedroeg in het kwartaal 17,2 procent (non-GAAP). Voor Q2 2014 verwacht Juniper Networks een omzet van zo'n 1,2 miljard bij een operationele marge van 21 procent.

Juniper offers cost cuts, dividend after Elliott pressure

Juniper Networks announced plans for significant cost reductions and a major return of capital to shareholders. The company targets a reduction of USD 160 million in operating costs by Q1 2015 compared to Q4 2013, helping it achieve a 25 percent operating margin in 2015. This is an improvement of 580 basis points from 2013. NSN to unveil mobile broadband portfolio upgrades at MWC14

Nokia Solutions and Networks has unveiled its launches in the run-up to Mobile World Congress 2014. NSN will reinforce its mobile broadband offering with advances in TD-LTE and LTE-Advanced, small cells, CEM and Liquid Applications. The company's upcoming portfolio launches are aimed at helping operators handle higher data volumes as they get ready to deliver 1 GB of personalized data per user per day by 2020.

As Nokia approaches the completion of the sale of its handset division to Microsoft, the attention is shifting to Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN), which will form the core of the new Nokia. In Q3 2013, NSN's sales contracted by around a quarter and operating profit fell by 9 percent. Still, there are a number of opportunities for the division which will account for over 90 percent of Nokia sales going forward.

NSN executive chairman to step down

Nokia announced that Jesper Ovesen is to step down as executive chairman of Nokia Solutions and Networks, the group's network infrastructure business. A former CFO with a number of Danish companies, Ovesen joined NSN in September 2011 and helped lead the company's restructuring to narrow its focus to mobile broadband and improve cash flow. His departure follows Nokia's full takeover of the company in August. Ovesen will step down officially when Nokia's sale of its handset business to Microsoft is completed

Nokia is considering approaching Alcatel-Lucent about a possible tie-up, reports Reuters citing several people close to the matter. The sources said that no formal talks were underway, with one saying that Nokia held talks about buying Alcatel's mobile network equipment business as recently as late-2012. The sources said that interim CEO Risto Siilasmaa had already initiated internal discussions about the company's future strategy, but added that any decision could be months away.
