Nokia sets up 5G standalone network at Volkswagen's plant in Wolfsburg

Nokia said it has deployed a 5G standalone network at Volkswagen’s plant in Wolfsburg. The 5G network covers the production development centre and pilot hall at the plant. The private campus network uses the Nokia Digital Automation Cloud (DAC) system to provide reliable and secure connectivity.

Volkswagen will use the network to improve efficiency in production. The company is initially testing the wireless upload of data to manufactured vehicles and intelligent networking of robots and wireless assembly tools. Nokia’s DAC provides high-bandwidth and low-latency connectivity for sensors, machines, vehicles and other equipment.

Vodafone Germany said it has activated 5G standalone networks at mobile sites for 10 million people. Vodafone plans to transition the whole 5G network to standalone antennae by 2023, in order to supply fast internet and network slicing to customers and factories. It plans to make the 5G network available to 60 million people by 2023.

Ericsson said it is partnering with Deutsche Telekom to provide test kits for standalone 5G networks for industry customers in Germany. The kits include hardware and software to enable businesses to test 5G networks for productivity, efficiency, safety, and security. Enterprises will also have access to business development and technical support.

Deutsche Telekom tests data transmission on network slices with Ericsson, Nokia, Qualcomm

Deutsche Telekom said it has tested the first end-to-end data transmission in two network slices on a multi-vendor platform with Ericsson, Nokia and Qualcomm Technologies. The platform integrates Standalone 5G New Radio from Ericsson and a 5G Core from Nokia on a 5G SA (standalone) architecture. Network slicing involves virtually splitting the network to provide different services and quality parameters to customers.
