Nokia signs EUR 250 mln loan from Nordic Investment Bank for 5G R&D

Nokia said it has signed a EUR 250 million loan transaction with the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) to finance research and development activities related to 5G. The loan has an average maturity of approximately five years after disbursement and will be directed towards R&D focused on 5G activities in Europe from 2018-2020, including IoT applications in various sectors.

The NIB is a financial institution owned by Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden. It finances private and public projects in and outside the member countries. NIB has the highest possible credit rating of AAA/Aaa, with agencies Standard & Poor's and Moody's.

Nokia said it has signed EUR 1.50 billion, five-year multicurrency revolving credit facility with two one-year extension options. International ratings agency Moody's has downgraded its outlook for Nokia ratings to negative from stable. Moody's said that while it sees improvement for Nokia financials accelerating into 2020, growth will be too slow this year to keep the rating at stable. The agency sees a weaker than expected improvement this year in company revenue growth, operating profit and cash flow trends, including restructuring charges.

Nokia meets 2018 guidance after Q4 sales grow 3%, sees better results in 2019

Nokia reported a solid finish to 2018, with fourth-quarter revenues up 3 percent year-on-year on both a reported and organic basis to EUR 6.87 billion. The company forecast results to improve further in the course of 2019 as 5G roll-outs gather momentum, and increased its dividend by 5 percent to EUR 0.20 per share.

Nokia heeft een lening van EUR 250 miljoen met de Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) getekend voor de financiering van onderzoeks- en ontwikkelingsactiviteiten met betrekking tot 5G. De lening heeft een gemiddelde looptijd van ongeveer vijf jaar na uitbetaling. Hij zal wordt geoormerkt voor R&D gericht op 5G-activiteiten in Europa van 2018-2020, inclusief IoT-toepassingen in verschillende sectoren.

Telia Finland is launching a 5G network at Helsinki Airport and starting a project with airport operator Finavia to bring 5G to airport operations. Finavia will be Telia's first customer using the pre-commercial 5G network in Finland. A 5G robot has started operating in the non-Schengen area of T2 terminal to carry out service tasks.

Austrian operator A1 and its technology partner Nokia will launch a Pre 5G Campus at Vienna airport and have called a press conference on 04 December to mark this occasion. The A1 Campus uses the 5G features network slicing and small cells. They allow a reliable and powerful broadband connection, as well as a high level of security in one of the busiest traffic nodes of Central Europe.

Nokia, StarHub complete 5G New Radio pilot in Singapore

Nokia and Singapore operator StarHub completed the first outdoor pilot of 5G New Radio on 3.5GHz frequency band in Singapore. The companies demonstrated industrial and consumer applications to staff, industry partners and enterprise customers over 'live' Nokia 5G cells and core network technology at StarHub's headquarters in Singapore.

Teleste's smart bus stop built at Nokia Campus in Espoo

Teleste has built a smart and safe bus stop at the Nokia Campus in Espoo, Finland, as a part of the LuxTurrim5G ecosystem. Using video surveillance and high-capacity 5G connectivity, the bus stop was created to improve safety and security for public places through Teleste's newly launched 'Connected zone' concept that was introduced in October during Teleste's Security Seminar in Sweden. The concept will continue to be developed and tested as a part of Teleste's Smart City offering.
