Nokia unveils low-cost Lumia 610, DC-HSPA Lumia 900

Nokia has unveiled two new smartphones in its Lumia range of Windows Phone handsets at the Mobile World Congress. The new Nokia Lumia 610 is a low-cost device aimed at younger users. Integrating a range of social networking services with unified messaging, the Lumia 610 offers 256MB RAM and 8GB internal storage, as well as Wi-Fi, A-GPS, a 1,300mAh battery, 5 megapixel camera and a 3.7-inch LCD screen with 800x400 pixel resolution. It will be offered in white, cyan, magenta and black for EUR 189 from the second quarter. It comes with Microsoft applications such as Internet Explorer and access to Xbox games, as well as the apps Nokia Maps, Nokia Drive, Nokia Transport and Nokia Music. It also comes with new features on the Windows Phone 7.5 platform, available from April as a software download. Nokia said the upgrade will allow Windows Phone to support lower memory and processor requirements, as well as network and language requirements for China. As a result, Nokia announced plans to make a range of Lumia smartphones available in China, covering both CDMA and WCDMA technologies, in the coming months. Nokia also announced plans to launch a DC-HSPA version of the Lumia 900, earlier unveiled in the US as its first LTE smartphone. Supporting speeds up to 42Mbps, the Lumia 900 will be available in white, cyan and black for EUR 480 from the second quarter. Nokia will also launch in April a new e-reader application for the Lumia phones. Nokia Reading will support news, ebooks and audio books, including the ability to access content offline and pin dynamic content to the start screen as a Live Tile. It will be available in a range of languages with no subscription required. Also new is the Nokia Transport app, available from March offering step-by-step public transport directions and arrival information for over 500 cities in 46 countries.
