NTT Docomo exits Bangladesh operator in sale to Bharti Airtel

Bharti International (Singapore), a subsidiary of Indian operator Bharti Airtel, has acquired an additional 6.3 percent stake in Bangladeshi mobile operator Robi Axiata from NTT Docomo and its group entities. Bharti International (Singapore) thus increases its stake in Robi Axiata from 25 percent to 31.3 percent. Bharti Airtel reports that the acquisition of the ordinary shares of Robi from Docomo “is done at mutually agreed valuation”. No financial details related to the transaction have been disclosed.  

Back in March, Robi submitted its application to the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission for the operator's listing on the country's twin bourses. The operator seeks to raise BDT 3.87 billion for its network expansion. Bharti Airtel was left with a 25 percent stake in Robi after it merged its Bangladesh subsidiary with Axiata's Robi, while Japan’s NTT Docomo held a 6.31 percent stake in the merged group.

Docomo quarterly revenue falls more than 5%, net profit up 1.5%

Japanese mobile operator NTT Docomo saw its revenues decline by 5.3 percent to JPY 1.098 trillion in its fiscal first quarter ended 30 June 2020. Operating profit slightly increased by 0.7 percent to JPY 280.5 billion. Docomo's net profit rose 1.5 percent to JPY 195.3 billion. The operator's quarterly capex decreased by 7.2 percent to JPY 90.8 billion, while adjusted free cash flow turned negative at JPY 54 billion from a positive JPY 174.8 billion in the quarter ended 30 June 2019.

Airtel acquires stake in kids learning startup Lattu Kids

Indian operator Bharti Airtel has acquired a stake in Edtech startup Lattu Media ('Lattu Kids') as part of the Airtel Startup Accelerator Programme. Mumbai-based Lattu Kids specializes in digital learning tools for children. No financial details related to the transaction have been disclosed.

Tomia announced that NTT Docomo chose Tomia's clearing products to maximise wholesale network targets. Docomo has now deployed Tomia's Data and Financial Clearing services in conjunction with Tomia's wholesale Deal Analytics tool. When combined, Tomia's Clearing and Deal Analytics services provide new levels of automation to Docomo's wholesale deal management. Discount deals can be simulated, agreed, tracked, and forecast, all in real time, can be settled automatically through Tomia's Financial Clearing.

Robi files for IPO, to raise BDT 3.87 billion

Bangladeshi mobile operator Robi has submitted its application to the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission for the operator's listing on the country's twin bourses. The operator plans to raise BDT 3.87 billion for its network expansion, The Daily Star reports. This will be the second listing of a mobile operator on the local market, after Grameenphone launched on the stock exchange in 2009.

Axiata expects to beat FY guidance after strong Q2 growth

Axiata said its 'Shifting Gear' strategy launched at the end of 2018 is starting to bear fruit, with a solid improvement in Q2 results. Revenues rose 3.7 percent year-on-year to MYR 6.2 billion, EBITDA increased 13.1 percent to MYR 2.3 billion, and net profit improved 12.2 percent to MYR 250 million.

Robi ends March with 29 mln mobile data subscribers

Bangladeshi mobile operator Robi saw its profit jump to BDT 110 million in the first quarter of 2019. However, due to the financial implications of implementing IFRS 16 in January 2019, its profit turned into a loss of BDT 240 million. Robi saw its revenue grow by 3.7 percent compared to the previous quarter to BDT 18.29 billion in the first three months of this year. Quarter-on-quarter, Robi's revenue increased by 12.3 percent.

Bangladeshi mobile operator Robi has received the final approval from the telecom regulator BTRC on its merger with Airtel. Robi's subscriber base jumps 19% following Airtel merger

Bangladeshi mobile operator Robi Axiata has announced its financial results for the fourth quarter ended 31 December 2016, following the completion of its merger with Airtel. Following its merger with Airtel, Robi's subscriber base reached 33.8 million users, up by 19.5 percent year-on-year, representing an estimated industry subscriber market share of 26.9 percent. Axiata, Airtel complete merger of Bangladesh units

Axiata Group and Bharti Airtel have announced the completion of the merger exercise of their respective subsidiaries in Bangladesh, namely Robi Axiata and Airtel Bangladesh. Axiata now holds a 68.7 percent controlling stake in the combined entity, while Bharti owns a 25 percent stake. The remaining 6.3 percent continues to be held by the existing shareholder NTT Docomo of Japan. The combined entity will operate as Robi Axiata and will serve around 32.2 million subscribers across Bangladesh.
