NTT Docomo Xi LTE users top 5 mln
NTT Docomo's subscribers to its Xi LTE mobile service surpassed 5 million on 19 August. Xi reached 5 million subscribers less than one month after surpassing the 4 million mark on 22 July. The pace accelerated from this summer after Docomo introduced a lineup of Xi-compliant smartphones that offer more variety to meet customer needs. Going forward, Docomo said it will continue to deliver enhanced customer satisfaction with its Xi smartphones, as well as compliant mobile Wi-Fi routers and other devices, and services such as Xi Talk 24 for free, unlimited voice calls between Xi subscribers.

Is LTE a substitute for FTTH? Not really . . .

Japanese incumbent NTT is cutting its FTTH prices in an attempt to limit churn in subscribers to LTE services. Its fixed-line units NTT East and NTT West are cutting prices by 34 percent to JPY 3,600 per month (EUR 34). Growth in FTTH has slowed drastically, while LTE in Japan is growing rapidly. Its mobile subsidiary NTT DoCoMo charges just JPY 5,000 per month for an LTE subscription at up to 75Mbps, with a data cap of 3GB per month.

NTT DoCoMo announces five upcoming LTE devices

Japanese mobile operator NTT DoCoMo has announced three smartphones and two tablets being released this autumn and winter that will be compatible with its Xi LTE service. All five devices can handle a maximum downlink speed of 75 Mbps and run on Android 4.0. Docomo's Q1 profit grows 3.5% on data, smartphone sales

Japanese mobile operator NTT Docomo grew its net income 3.5 percent to JPY 164.3 billion in the fiscal first quarter, compared to JPY 158.7 billion a year earlier, on increased smartphone sales and data revenues. Operating revenues were JPY 1.07 trillion, growing 2.4 percent from JPY 1.05 trillion in the year-ago quarter, with mobile service revenues totalling JPY 827.2 billion, down 2.8 percent year-on-year. NTT Docomo LTE subscriber base surpasses 4 mln

Japanese operator NTT Docomo announced that subscribers to Xi, its LTE mobile service offering a maximum downlink of 75 Mbps, surpassed 4 million on 22 July. Xi reached 4 million subscribers just one and a half months after it surpassed the 3 million mark on 8 June.

Docomo confirms cut in LTE data prices

Japanese mobile operator NTT Docomo confirmed plans to cut prices for its LTE data service Xi from October. The basic monthly charge of the three new billing plans will be lower than existing plans. The Xi Pake-hodai Light plan for data use on phones will cost JPY 4,935 (including tax) per month, while the Xi Data Plan Light plan for data-only devices will cost JPY 6,405 per month.
