Nvidia profits fall on modem exit, tablet recall charges
Nvidia reported revenue for its fiscal second quarter to July of USD 1.153 billion, up 5 percent from a year earlier and just ahead of its forecast. Earnings fell to USD 0.05 per share from USD 0.22 a year ago, including a charge of 19 cents per share for winding down the Icera modem operations after failing to find a buyer and a charge of 2 cents for the Shield tablet recall. Adjusted earnings were up 13 percent year-on-year to USD 0.34, and CEO Jen-Hsun Huang said the company had a strong performance in a challenging market environment. For the fiscal third quarter, Nvidia forecast revenue of USD 1.18 billion, plus or minus 2 percent, and a gross margin around 56.2 percent, plus or minus 50 basis points. It also expects USD 15-25 million in restructuring charges in H2.
