O2's customer base grows 15.5 percent to 24.6 million
O2 reports a 15.5 percent growth during fiscal Q1 of its customer base to 24.6 million. Of the 646, 000 additions Germany accounted for 412,000, O2 UK added 232,000 and O2 Ireland's customer base did not change. The services revenue grew the fastests in Germany (24 percent), then Ireland (15 percent and the U.K. (3 percent.). The Average revenue per user (ARPU) of O2 UK blended reached GBP 271 compare with GBP 273 in Q4 FY 2004/5 and GBP 269 in Q1 2004/'05. O2 Germany's blended ARPU amounted to EUR 356 while O2 Ireland reported a blended ARPU of EUR 571 compared with EUR 565 in Q4 2004/5. The total SMS volume of O2 increased by 34 percent year-on-year, to 4.31 billion messages sent. The share of mobile data of the service revenue was stable at 26 percent while 34 percent of O2 customers used non-SMS data services.
