Ofcom appoints Amazon executive as Chief Technology Officer

UK regulator Ofcom has announced the appointment of Sachin Jogia as Chief Technology Officer. He joins Ofcom from Amazon, where he is currently General Manager for Alexa Smart Home International.

As Chief Technology Officer, he will lead Ofcom's work to support innovation across the telecoms, broadcasting, wireless services and postal sectors.

Ofcom proposes price for Arqiva, Airwave spectrum licences

UK regulator Ofcom has published the proposed licence fees for the 412–414 MHz and 422–424 MHz paired spectrum, licensed to Arqiva and Airwave. Arqiva won the spectrum in a 2006 auction, with a 15-year initial licence period during which no additional fees would be required. The initial period will come to an end later this year at which point te licence will become payable. Arqiva traded part of the spectrum with Airwave in 2008, making Airwave the co-licensee.

The average download speed of UK residential fixed-line broadband services was 80.2 Mbps in 2020, up 25 percent from 64 Mbps in 2019, according to the latest Home Broadband Performance research from regulator Ofcom. This increased was driven by rising availability and take-up of faster broadband packages.
