Mobile telecom operator O2, formerly Telfort, won the lawsuit it filed against Dutch telecom watchdog Opta. The court in Amsterdam said O2 does not have to lower the terminating tariffs rival operators have to pay when using O2's network. Opta earlier ordered O2 to do so, but the telecom provider does not believe that the watchdog is authorized to fix tariffs. O2 says its mobile terminating tariffs are reasonable and in line with other operators within the European Union. Moreover it said the watchdog didn't examine the market impact of its order. O2 says the ruling proves that Opta exceeds its competences as supervisor. The operator says Opta is not a regulator.
