Optus has picked Huawei Australia as the vendor partner for Optus' rollout of LTE technology across Newcastle and the surrounding region. Huawei is responsible for installation, commissioning, spectrum refarming, project management, transmission provisioning, managed services, and professional services. Huawei worked with Optus to refarm existing 1800 MHz spectrum (used for 2G mobile services) for LTE. Huawei began the project in late 2011, with services due to come online in April this year.
