Oracle takeover of Sun Microsystems gets green light from EU
Oracle said it has received regulatory approval from the European Commission for its acquisition of Sun Microsystems. Oracle expects unconditional approval from China and Russia and intends to close the transaction shortly. The takeover was first announced in April 2009, with a price tag of USD 7.4 billion. The European Commission cleared the acquisition after Oracle addressed competition concerns about its acquisition of the open-source database MySQL, which Sun bought in 2008. Oracle agreed to invest in MySQL and keep its open-source licensing platform.
