Orange debuts Orange Money service in Ivory Coast
Orange Ivory Coast has become the first group company to launch the Orange Money service. Orange Money gives customers access to a range of day-to-day banking services, including depositing and withdrawing up to XOF 100,000 (around EUR 150) from their Orange Money account, transferring money from one person to another, buying up to XOF 10,000 of call credit, and paying bills. BNP Paribas bank's Ivory Coast subsidiary, BICICI, issues and guarantees the electronic money and Orange Ivory Coast handles the service's platform and marketing. Users do not need to hold a bank account to subscribe to the service. Orange Money will be deployed in other countries over the coming months, said Marc Rennard, the group's executive director for Africa, Middle East and Asia Pacific regions.
