Orange France unveils Livebox Play STB

Orange France has taken nearly 100,000 pre-orders in two weeks for its Livebox Play STB, set for release on 7 February. Livebox Play features many cutting-edge technologies and supports all customer screens, said the operator’s executive director, Delphine Ernotte Cunci. Livebox Play supports up to 200 Mbps downloads and 50 Mbps over fibre, which can cut down the time needed to download a 700MB film from nearly 5 minutes to 28 seconds.

The dual Wi-Fi system, which uses 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, delivers HD quality video to all of the TVs, computers, tablets and smartphones in the house with HD video. Built around an Intel Groveland processor, the Livebox Play features an OLED screen, supports up to 4 DECT phones with shared contact. Pre-installed apps include Deezer, Dailymotion, Allocine, Facebook, Twitter, and the STB comes with a motion control-enabled remote control with joystick. The device comes with nine games pre-installed and customers will be offered over 100 games through Orange’s cloud gaming service. The Livebox Play has 80GB of initial storage, which can be raised to 240GB on request.

A 3D Blu Ray player from Panasonic will be offered to Livebox Play customers for EUR 99 in April. Livebox Play services start at EUR 39 a month for unlimited calls to landlines and mobiles in over 100 locations, TV and internet access. ADSL and fibre pricing is the same.
