Orange plans civil suit after NSA revelations
Orange is preparing a civil suit following allegations the US Nation Security Agency tapped one of its submarine cable systems. Germany's Der Spiegel reported based on documents from whistleblower Edward Snowden that the Sea-Me-We-4 cable, in which Orange is a shareholder, was subject to tapping by the NSA. Orange told French paper Les Echos that it was considering all possible legal action and aims to file a civil suit in the coming days. According to the paper's sources, the French operator is expected to ally with the International Federation for Human Rights and the Human Rights League, which earlier filed a suit in Paris against X for violation of personal information, after the initial revelations on the NSA's Prism programme. The French magistrate has already started an investigation.
