Orange Poland to acquire Multimedia Polska Energia

Orange Poland has signed a conditional agreement to purchase 100 percent of the shares of Multimedia Polska Energia for PLN 37 million. The agreement is subject to approval by the antimonopoly authority within three months of signing of the contract.

Multimedia Polska Energia sells electricity based on third-party access to the transmission network, as a result of the progressive liberalisation of the electricity market. At the date of signing the agreement, Multimedia Polska Energia served 75,000 customers with monthly ARPU of PLN 46.

As reported earlier, Orange competed for Multimedia Polska Energia with PGE. The transaction fits the operator's strategy of developing its residential offering with complementary services. After the transaction, Orange Energia will become a leader among alternative energy suppliers with around 100,000 customers, it said. Orange first entered the energy market in 2015 and reported 15,000 customers in late 2016.

The deal comes as cable operator Multimedia Polska is set to be sold to UPC. That deal has been delayed due to an extensive regulatory review
