Orange Poland to apply EU roaming surcharges for pre-paid users

As a result of the increased roaming costs after the introduction of Roam-Like-At-Home in the EU in mid-June 2017, Orange Poland is introducing roaming surcharges for pre-paid users. The operator, together with its competitors, requested permission from regulator UKE to apply surcharges to compensate for losses from roaming. This possibility is allowed by the EU roaming regulation and applied by regulators in several other EU countries, too. The losses of Polish operators resulting from the cancelling of roaming fees are estimated at PLN 500 million during 2017.

UKE has approved the application of surcharges for several operators, including Orange. The first of the big players to introduce the surcharges was P4, trading under the brand Play, which did so both for postpaid and prepaid customers.

From 18 June, Orange will apply the roaming surcharges, but only for prepaid clients, using both Orange on Card and its second brand, nju mobile. The surcharges will amount to PLN 0.05 per minute of outgoing calls, PLN 0.02 per minute of incoming calls, and PLN 0.01 per SMS, MMS and 1 MB of data.
