Besides LTE, Orange will increase coverage of its UMTS 900 network, offering speeds up to 21 Mbps. UMTS 900 shall cover mainly rural areas with no LTE available. Orange's 3G network should be available to 90 percent of the population by the end of the year.
Subscribers of Ideal tariffs, who so far did not have any mobile internet service activated, will automatically get 100 MB data. Moreover, in most of the tariffs, the operator will double data packages. The speed after spending the data package will fall to 128 kbps, not 64 kbps as previously.
LTE internet is now available for 80,000 customers, the estimated number of devices with LTE support on the Orange network. To access the network, the user needs a USIM card and updated software. Another 23,000 customers have devices supporting 4G, but need a software update. Software updates will be released by telephone suppliers gradually and customers will get a notification on the update.
Currently, LTE networks allow maximum speed of 70 Mbps in the 800 MHz band (using 2x10 MHz) and 150 Mbps in the bands 1800 MHz and 2600 MHz (using two blocks of 20 MHz).
