Orange to launch own-brand phone with Intel chip
Orange will launch a smartphone code-named Orange Santa Clara in Europe this summer, running Android Gingerbread and an Intel Atom processor. One of the first phones to run Intel's new mobile platform, and Orange's first Intel-based handset, the smartphone will feature the Z2460 processor and the Intel XMM 6260 Platform for HSPA+. The Orange-branded smartphone will have a 4.3-inch display, 16 GB of memory and 10.8 megapixel camera with HD video recording. It will come loaded with the operator's Orange TV, Dailymotion, Deezer, Orange Wednesdays, Your Orange and Orange Gestures apps. It will upgrade to Android Ice Cream Sandwich soon after launch. The phone's official name will be known when it releases in France and the UK first. Orange-branded phones are expected to account for 20 percent of the operator's total device portfolio by the end of the year, up on 15 percent in 2011 and 7 percent in 2010.
