Orange to offer Lookout phone protection in European markets
Orange has formed a partnership with US mobile security company Lookout that will see it offer the Lookout app as standard on select Android phones and tablets from early 2013 in France, Slovakia, Spain and the UK. More markets and devices will be added throughout next year and beyond. As part of the partnership, Iris Capital, the investment joint venture of Orange and Publicis, is making an investment in Lookout. The company’s software protects devices from malware, data loss, privacy threats and phone loss or theft.

Orange customers will also gain access to Lookout’s recently launched Signal Flare feature, which helps users locate a phone even if the battery has died. Orange said it may also offer the premium version of Lookout as part of its bundles for additional protection and privacy controls. Lookout states that it locates EUR 5.5 million worth of phones a day, that people in some European cities lose two phones a year, on average, and that 40 percent of Android users will click on a malicious web link on their phone this year.
