Orascom posts strong H1 results, net income up by 49 percent
Orascom Telecom Holding (OTH) announces its consolidated first half results for 2005. The number of subscribers for the group exceeded 21.2 million, Orascom Telecom added over 11.9 million subscribers since June 2004, a 128 percent increase, and over 3.6 million in this quarter, a 21 percent increase over March 2005. OTH subsidiary Tunisiana more than doubled its subscribers since June 2004 and reached 1.5 million. Furthermore, Banglalink which launched its operations in February 2005, increased its subscribers to approximately 460,000 subscribers. OTH's African subsidiaries saw a slight increase in subcriber numbers, Telecel (Africa) now has 206,360 subscribers and Libertis (Congo Brazzaville) has 182,393 subscribers. First half consolidated revenues reached EGP 9,195 million and grew 69 percent compared with the comparable period in 2004. Total GSM services revenue reached EGP 7.7 million, up from 4.7 million last year. Internet services revenue was EGP 61,014, up from EGP 43,887 in H1 2004. Consolidated EBITDA for was EGP 3.7 billion, a 27 percent increase compared to June 2004. GSM EBITDA Margin was 46.8 percent, down modestly 1.4 percent from Q1. Net Income was EGP 1,725 million, up 49 percent compared to the first half of 2004. Net income for the second quarter increased 19 percent in comparison with last quarter.
