Orascom Telecom rejects Altimo buy-out offer
Egypt's Orascom Telecom announced that its board of directors has recommended shareholders reject an offer from Russian investor Altimo to buy out the mobile company for USD 0.70 a share. Independent financial adviser HC Securities and Investments put the fair value of Orascom's shares higher, at USD 0.86 per share, the company said. 

Altimo made the offer which values all of Orascom at USD 3.7 billion in early April. Altimo already has a 47.85 percent voting interest in Orascom's controlling shareholder Vimpelcom. Representatives of Vimpelcom, which owns 52.92 percent of Orascom Telecom, did not vote on the board's opinion of the bid. Vimpelcom said separately that it does not plan to tender its Orascom shares to Altimo under the current terms of the offer.

Shares in Egypt's Orascom Telecom saw its strongest fall in the past six months following an announcement made by Altimo's Mikhail Fridman that he will not acquire a 16 percent stake in the mobile phone company, the Daily News reported. Russian operator Altimo said it had no plans to launch a new offer to buy out minority shareholders in Orascom Telecom, after Egypt's regulator rejected its attempt to reopen its earlier tender, Reuters said. Telecom Egypt Q1 revenue up 1.4% to EGP 2.72 billion

Telecom Egypt (TE) posted a 1.4 percent increase in its first quarter consolidated revenues to EGP 2.72 billion from EGP 2.68 billion in the first quarter of 2012 and up 9 percent from EGP 2.49 billion in the fourth quarter of 2012. Net profit reached EGP 858 million versus EGP 914 million in the first quarter last year, a decrease of 6.2 percent. This translates to EPS of EGP 0.50.

Vimpelcom Q1 revenues flat on weak Italian market

Vimpelcom reported flat revenues for the first quarter, hurt by weaker results in its second-largest market Italy and negative currency effects. Revenues of USD 5.59 billion were up 1 percent on an organic basis and would have rose 4 percent organically if the 72 percent cut in Italian termination rates was excluded, the company said. Altimo files Orascom Telecom buy-out offer

Russian investment company Altimo has launched its offer to buy out minority shareholders in Orascom Telecom. Orascom Telecom is controlled by Russia's Vimpelcom, which together with subsidiaries owns 51.92 percent. Altimo owns 47.85 percent of Vimpelcom. Vimpelcom said it would not tender its shares in Orascom to Altimo in the offer. Altimo's offer of USD 0.70 per share for Orascom has been cleared by the Egyptian securities regulator.
