OTE sees decline in Greek fixed line customers in Q1
OTE said its fixed-line operations in Greece recorded a loss of nearly 94,000 PSTN and ISDN retail connections in the first quarter of 2012. OTE's retail ADSL customers stood at 1.1 million, a net loss of over 4,000 subscribers in the quarter. In the quarter, twelve shops were adapted to the new retail concept introduced at the end of last year, bringing the total to 42. OTE's updated cost model for 2012 was validated by the regulatory authorities and should allow OTE to introduce more competitive prices. OTE's satellite TV service had attracted nearly 18,000 subscribers a the end of the first quarter. Overall, the revenue from fixed line operations in Greece dropped 9.1 percent to EUR 441.2 million from a year earlier. Operating income (EBIT) for the same period increased by 14.2 percent. In mobile operations in Greece, revenues increased by 0.6 percent to 381.3 million with EBITDA at 1.4 percent. The mobile operations arm of the group in Greece, Cosmote, provided mobile telephony services to 7.9 million customers, up 3.5 percent from 31 March. Blended ARPU for the quarter was EUR 14.6, up by nearly 1 percent compared with a year earlier.
