Over 1.2 bln apps downloaded in week to New Year

Over 20 million iOS and Android devices were activated in the week between Christmas and New Year and more than 1.2 billion apps were downloaded for the two mobile OS, Flurry Analytics estimates. Both were records for the period. App downloads were up 60 percent from a normal week in December, and Flurry expects the numbers to continue to grow in 2012, reaching more 1-billion-download weeks. The US, which accounts for around 41 percent of the installed base of devices, led in app downloads for the holiday week (25-31 December), with an estimated 509 million downloads. China was second with 99 million apps downloaded, and the UK was third with 81 million. Canada, Germany and France followed in the rankings, with each around 40 million downloads.
