Pakistan to auction 2100, 1800 MHz spectrum in April

Pakistan plans to hold 3G and 4G licence auctions in April this year. The proposal for the auctions has been approved by Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. A 15-year 3G licence for a 10 MHz block of 2100 MHz spectrum will cost USD 295 million while a 4G licence for a 10 MHz block of 1800 MHz spectrum is priced at USD 210 million, ProPakistani reports citing finance minister Ishaq Dar. The government will auction off 30 MHz of 2100 MHz spectrum and 20 MHz of 1800 MHz spectrum. Buyers that acquire a 1800 MHz block will also be required to buy at least one block of 2100 MHz spectrum. Furthermore, buyers will be required to pay at least 50 percent of the fee upfront.
