Paraguay to launch 4G spectrum auction next month - Conatel

Paraguay will proceed with its long-delayed auction of frequencies in the 4G spectrum as early as next month, reports local daily ABC, citing Teresita Palacios, acting president of the country’s communications regulator Conatel. Palacios described the LTE spectrum auction as her priority and said the corresponding bidding documentation would be issued  in the first half of July. Conatel aims to auction AWS spectrum in the 1,700 MHz and 2,100 MHz bands.

The government previously said the tender would be open to new entrants and existing operators such as Tigo, Claro, Personal and Vox. However, Claro and Personal Paraguay, which operates under the Nucleo brand, have asked Conatel to exclude Tigo from the 4G spectrum auction due to its dominant position and existing spectrum holdings.
