Paymark, Vodafone, Telecom, 2degrees team up on m-payments
Paymark, Vodafone New Zealand, 2degrees and Telecom New Zealand are planning to bring mobile payment services to New Zealand. The four companies intend to form a joint venture to launch a trusted service manager (TSM) which will allow New Zealanders to make secure payments, collect loyalty points, and use public transport with their mobile phones. Based on the collaboration of the four parties, the aim is to create an ecosystem open to all, where banks, mobile operators, and others such as loyalty schemes, transport companies etc., can take part. The TSM is being built with the intention of providing one, open-access, solution for the New Zealand market, to help encourage wide-spread consumer uptake and avoid customer confusion. The service will use near-field communications (NFC) technology.
