Pelephone confirms bid for Golan Telecom
Israeli mobile operator Pelephone confirmed it has made an offer to acquire Golan Telecom. Rothschild Investment Bank is managing the sale of the mobile operator, which is owned by French businessmen Michael Golan and Xavier Niel. Pelephone said its offer is still subject to a definitive agreement and several other conditions, including regulatory approval.

Started in 2012 as part of a new crop of mobile providers who won spectrum in Israel, Golan quickly built up a substantial customer base using the all-in type offers perfected by Golan and Niel at French operator Iliad (Free). Golan Telecom has a network roaming agreement with Cellcom, which has also expressed interest in acquiring the company. In June, Golan Telecom said it was approaching 800,000 customers. Pelephone has about 2.5 million customers.
