Peru launches mobile phone user database
Peruvian telecoms regulator Osiptel has launched a mobile phone user database. Peruvian mobile customers can now check online the mobile phone lines that they currently own. To use the service, customers are required to enter their ID number, after which the system displays the prepay or postpaid mobile lines registered on that user's name. The initiative aims to decrease the risk of being affected by third parties that may contract mobile services to another person's name to commit crimes. The system is currently available for Claro, Movistar and Nextel mobile customers.
