Peru’s transport and communications ministry (MTC) has again postponed the deadline to launch DTT transmissions in a total of 16 regions across the country due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. In a decision published in the country's official gazette (El Peruano), the ministry said it amended the Master Plan for the Implementation of Digital Terrestrial Television for the fourth time as a result of difficulties encountered in importing the required equipment and installing digital transmission stations.
The requirement to begin direct DTT transmissions have thus been extended to Q4 2022 in Territory 2 (Arequipa, Cusco, Trujillo, Chiclayo, Piura and Huancayo) and Q4 2023 in Territory 3 (Ayacucho, Chimbote (Ancash), Ica, Iquitos (Amazonas), Juliaca (Puno), Pucallpa (Ucayali), Puno and Tacna).
Territory 4 localities (Abancay, Cajamarca, Chachapoyas (Amazonas), Huancavelica, Huanuco, Puerto Maldonado (Madre de Dios), Moquegua, Cerro de Pasco, Moyobamba (San Martin) and Tumbes) now have until Q4 2025 to launch DTT while those in Territory 5 (all other localities) have until Q4 2027.
