Portugal Telecom launches LTE services
Portugal Telecom announced the launch of LTE services with a mobile broadband offer. Customers can choose from subscriptions for USB modem access at 50 or 100Mbps, starting at EUR 49.99 per month. The operator expects the LTE network will cover more than 80 percent of the population by April. For customers already subscribing to fixed broadband from the operator, they can access more than 50 TV channels and millions of music tracks over the mobile service, using the Meo Go! and Musicbox services. Other customers taking one of the 4G offers can sign up for the content services for an additional EUR 7.99 per month.

Samsung offers 'trial' LTE devices in Portugal

Samsung has started offering LTE mobile devices in Portugal, but said these are only for "trial" purposes. A spokesperson told the Lusa news agency that its 4G mobile phones, available with local mobile operators, are available for consumers to experiment, although Optimus claims that the devices have already been sold. Samsung said that "at this time the products that Samsung has provided operators are for trial purposes". The devices in question are the Galaxy S II and Galaxy Tab 8.9.

Vodafone launches LTE services in Portugal

Vodafone Portugal has started marketing LTE services, the same day as rival TMN. Initially, the services will be available in large parts of Lisbon and Porto as well as other district capitals, Funchal and Ponta Delgada. TMN pays EUR 113 million for 4G spectrum

Portugal Telecom announced that unit TMN now also holds 4G (LTE) mobile spectrum, following the recent auction. TMN spent EUR 113 million to get the license. In a statement sent to the Securities Market Commission (CMVM), Portugal Telecom said that TMN submitted bids for nine lots in three frequency bands, paying the equivalent to the set reserve prices. Optimus to use 4G spectrum for data services

The allocation of spectrum for 4G mobile (LTE) will set a "very solid" base for future data services provided via mobile access, the CEO of Portuguese mobile telephony operator Optimus, Miguel Almeida, said. Almeida told the local press that Optimus gave a total of EUR 113 million in the 4G auction to get the necessary spectrum.

Vodafone wins 4G/LTE mobile spectrum in Portugal

Vodafone Portugal has won a total of 123 MHz (2x49 MHz FDD 25 MHz TDD) spectrum in the 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz and 2600 MHz frequency bands.
