Portugal Telecom paid EUR 11.6 bln in dividends since 2000

Portugal Telecom has paid shareholders approximately EUR 11.6 billion in dividends, share buy-backs and the spin-off of PT Multimedia since 2000, when Zeinal Bava joined the company as CEO, reports Diario Economico. According to the paper, the amount is more than ten times higher than the current market value of Portugal Telecom. It is more than double the market value of Oi, too. The Brazilian operator, which absorbed the assets of PT in the process of the merger, has a market value of EUR 4.5 billion.
