Proximus settles with Base, Mobistar for EUR 120 mln
Belgium's three mobile operators have reached a settlement of their long-running legal dispute over the mobile market. The smallest operator Base first sued market leader Proximus in 2003, alleging abuse of its dominant position by offering special rates for on-net calls. Mobistar later joined the case, and a preliminary ruling by an appeals court in February this year confirmed evidence of abuse by Proximus. The three have agreed to put an end to the lawsuits, with no party admitting fault. Proximus will pay EUR 66 million to Base and EUR 54 million. Other details of the agreement were not disclosed. Mobistar and Base had previously claimed over EUR 1 billion in damages.
