Around 8 percent of all broadband subscriptions were part of quad-play plans at the end of Q2 2015, up from 5 percent a year earlier. The greater number of quad-play subscribers is also leading to an increased in associated revenues, which passed EUR 100 million in the second quarter, compared to EUR 58 million a year ago. KPN is the leading player in the quad-play market, with steady growth each quarter. However, Ziggo is stepping up its presence in the quad-play market and gradually taking market share in the relatively new segment.
While quad-play is showing strong growth, the majority of households are still on triple-play subscriptions. Almost 4 million households in the Netherlands combine three services (fixed or mobile) at one provider. Ziggo accounts for 60 percent of all triple-play subscribers, and KPN has around 30 percent. The remaining 10 percent is divided among M7, Tele2, Delta and Vodafone.
The report also shows that the share of households with double-play plans is stable for the moment, although some changes are occurring. The combination broadband and fixed telephony is becoming less common, in favour of more subscriptions combining broadband and TV or mobile telephony.
