Ratan Tata invests in Xiaomi
Xiaomi India has announced that Ratan Tata, chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, the promoter of Indian communications provider Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra), has made an investment in Xiaomi. This is the first investment by any Indian in Xiaomi, according to a Xiaomi India post on Facebook. No financial details related to the investment have been disclosed.

Xiaomi taps Gadgetwood for repair, support services in India

Gadgetwood eServices, a webbased portal that offers repair and support services for smart gadgets, has won a contract from Xiaomi. Under the terms of the deal, Gadgetwood will offer customized and 1-day repair and delivery services to the Xiaomi device users across India, The Economic Times reports, citing Manu Kumar Jain, head of Xiaomi India. "We want to bring door-delivery services to customers, who otherwise have no time to travel and identify outlets to service their gadgets in", Jain said.

Xiaomi to launch production unit in India

Chinese smartphone producer Xiaomi will start local production in India, Reuters reports, citing Hugo Barra, Xiaomi's vice president of international operations. Xiaomi's manufacturing unit in India is scheduled for launch within 12 to 18 months. Kingsoft, Xiaomi, Temasek to invest USD 296 mln in 21Vianet

Chinese data centre operator 21Vianet Group has signed share purchase agreements with affiliates of internet-based software provider Kingsoft, smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi and Singapore-based investment company Temasek. Xiaomi and Shunwei Capital are planning to invest USD 300 million into Baidu's online video portal iQiyi.com, the Wall Street Journal reported. Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has announced on its official Weibo account that it plans to invest USD 1 billion in online video content to support its smart television ecosystem, TechCrunch repots. The investment will be overseen by Xiaomi executives Chen Tong and Wang Chuan. Tong is the former editor-in-chief of news portal Sina.com, who joined Xiaomi in October, while Chuan is director of Xiaomi's smart TV products (Mi TV and Mi Box).
