Realme releases GT 'flagship killer' in first global launch

Realme has unveiled its first flagship global release, the Realme GT smartphone. Running the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, the latest high-end 5G chip from Qualcomm, the GT will "set new industry standards for the mid- to high-end flagship phone segment", the company said.

The Realme brand was developed by Oppo to bring high-end features to low-cost phones, and the GT is billed as no less than a "flagship killer". According to the company, the GT was designed like the sports cars of the same name, offering high-speed, long-distance performance.

The phone comes with a glass-covered design in a choice of silver or blue, with a 3D light-reflecting pattern on the back and a series of shooting arrow patterns to symbolize speed. A vegan-leather covered version in yellow sports a repeated acceleration symbol along the length of the phone to convey the spirit of racing cars.

Under the hood, the phone runs a new stainless steel VC cooling system to optimise performance of the high-end processor and 4,500 mAh battery. It comes with 65W fast charging, a 6.43-inch 120Hz Samsung Super Amoled display, Sony 64MP triple camera with a new night portrait mode and AI capabilities, and access to the Android 12 beta programme.

The special GT Mode is designed for gamers, including full-scene high performance mode coverage and further optimization of high-frame-rate gaming. For music lovers, the phone offers Dolby Atmos dual stereo speakers, support for hi-res audio and a 3.5mm headphones jack.

With support for all major 5G bands, the Realme GT also comes with the latest Bluetooth and Wi-Fi standards, 8 or 12 GB LPDDR5 RAM and 128 or 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The 12+256 version will be available at the discounted price of EUR 499 for Amazon's Prime Day sale and otherwise cost EUR 599, while the 8+128 GB version will sell on AliExpress for EUR 369. Initial launch countries include Poland, Spain, Russia and Thailand, with additional markets to follow.
