RIM mulls handset division sale, spin-off - report

Research In Motion is considering selling its handset-manufacturing unit or a stake in the whole company, the UK's Sunday Times reported. The BlackBerry maker earlier this year hired JPMorgan Chase and RBC Capital Markets to help evaluate its options. These include divesting the handset division or spinning it off into a separate listed company, the paper said, or RIM could sell a stake in the entire company to a larger rival such as Microsoft. Amazon was also named as a possible buyer for the handset division.
