Roku plans to rebrand the catalogue it acquired from Quibi in January to Roku Originals. The content will then be launched on the free and ad-supported Roku Channel. Roku Originals will also be the brand name for future original programming on The Roku Channel, for viewers in the US, UK and Canada. Additional details on the launch of Roku Originals will be shared in May.
More than 75 Roku Originals, including a dozen unreleased series, will debut for the first time on The Roku Channel this year. Roku said the channel reached US households with an estimated 63 million people in the fourth quarter, up more than 100 percent year-over-year.
Roku Originals will join The Roku Channel’s diverse lineup of more than 40,000 free movies and programmes and over 165 free live linear television channels. The channel licenses and distributes content from more than 175 partners and is available on Web, iOS and Android devices, Amazon Fire TV and select Samsung TVs.
