The Romanian telecommunications authority ANC has rolled out the fixed and mobile number portability system. Starting 21 October, Romanian phone customers can submit their applications to change their service provider. According to Liviu Nistoran, ANC president, operators must deliver portability requests in a maximum 10 days. Nistoran estimates that in the first two years following the introduction of number portability system, around 20-25 percent of mobile phone customers in Romania will port their numbers. Users can currently port fixed and mobile phone numbers, as well as special numbers including those beginning with 0800 or 0900. Portability is only supported within the same category, either mobile or fixed. Additionally, the regulator has also launched a special website, providing information related to the portability system. The website features a search engine enabling the location of ported numbers, where users can find out if a number is ported and in what network.
