Romtelecom picks Morgan Stanley to assess merger, listing

Romanian operator Romtelecom has selected investment bank Morgan Stanley to assess the benefits of the proposed merger of Romtelecom and sister company Cosmote Romania and a listing on the stock exchange, as opposed to other possible options. The move comes after an agreement between Romtelecom's majority shareholder OTE and Romania's Minister of Communications and Informational Society (MCSI) which was signed on 1 July. The agreement refers to hiring independent consultants to assess the main options of the shareholders (either the merger between Romtelecom and Cosmote and floating the new entity on the stock exchange or Romtelecom's standalone listing on the stock exchange or any other possible options). Morgan Stanley will begin the negotiations for the correspondent contract with Romtelecom.
