RootMetrics names EE as top UK mobile network
EE has been named as the number one mobile network in the UK following tests by RootMetrics, which assessed all four major network operators. RootMetrics collected 840,000 test samples, with EE come top for network performance in all major categories in the UK. It came top for network reliability, speed, mobile internet performance, call performance and text performance. EE also took the top spot overall in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and was joint top in Wales. EE was top or joint top in all categories in all nations.

Verizon has the best mobile network coverage in the US, according to the latest RootMetrics report for the first half of 2014. The operator scored 81.6 out of 100 in overall performance, followed closely by AT&T at 79.5, T-Mobile US at 71.5 and Sprint at 69.6. EE has topped the Overall and Mobile Internet RootScore Awards in London, according to the latest RootMetrics reports. EE confirms new 4G plans, unveils Kestrel 4G smartphone

EE has confirmed a new range of entry-level 4G pay monthly plans. Customers choose from a range of 24-month entry-level 4G handset plans which includes the option of a free 4G handset, 500 MB of mobile data and an inclusive minutes and texts allowance for GBP 13.99 per month. EE also plans to launch a new cheaper 4G smartphone called the Kestrel. The Android device will free on 4G plans of GBP 13.99 a month or GBP 99.99 on 4G PAYG. It will be available from end-April.

EE offers new entry-level 4G plans, budget 4G phone

EE is launching a range of new cheaper 4G tariffs and its first budget 4G handset, reports The Telegraph. It will now offer 4G plans from GBP 13.99 per month, with inclusive packages that include roaming texts and calls available from GBP 21.99. The cheapest tariffs include 500 MB of data. The new budget smartphone, the Kestrel, has a 4.5-in screen and supports HD video. It will be offered free with the GBP 13.99 a month plan.

EE apologises after network service failure

EE has apologised to customers after an outage left customers unable to make calls, send texts or use mobile data, reports The Telegraph. EE said that a 'technical issue' had caused the problems, which started on the evening of 19 March. The operator said that full network service had now been restored.

Vodafone attacks RootMetrics network performance tests

Vodafone has attacked the latest RootMetrics test data which shows it has the worst performing mobile network in the UK. In a statement to Total Telecom, Vodafone said that the results should not be taken seriously because they were not completely impartial and did not follow standard industry practices.

EE signs 4G roaming agreements in France, Spain

EE has signed roaming agreements to provide customers with access superfast 4G in France and Spain. This option is available to consumer and small business customers with immediate effect, with corporate customers to follow soon. EE plans to upgrade London network with LTE-A technology

EE plans to upgrade its network in London with LTE-A technology to support data speeds up to 300 Mbps, reports The Register. In an interview with Mobile World Live, the news site of trade body GSMA, EE CEO Olaf Swantee said that it would roll out LTE-A technology first in South London, before expanding this to cover the whole M25 region. Swantee insisted that voice was still important to EE, adding that it was investing GBP 279 million to upgrade 2G equipment.
