Rostelecom to invest RUB 15 bln in Crimea
Russian national operator Rostelecom plans to invest RUB 15 billion to open a new branch in the Crimea region, reports Prime. Rostelecom sees an opportunity to deploy its own network in the region and is also negotiating an acquisition with Ukrainian operator Datagroup. The acquisition of the Crimea-based business of Ukrainian national operator Ukrtelecom is also under consideration.

Russian mobile operators sold a total of 200,000 Sims in the Crimea region, according to Russian Minister of Communications and Mass Media Nikolay Nikiforov. Russian state institutions get internal link in Crimea

The Russian Ministry of Communications and Mass Media announced that Russian state institutions working in the Crimea region have connected to a broadband link fully deployed over Russian traffic routes. The 46 km long subsea fibre link crossing the Kerch Straight was launched on 25 April.

Rostelecom launches fibre link to Crimea

Russian national operator Rostelecom has completed the deployment and launched services on the fibre-optic backbone link to the city of Kerch in the Crimea region. The line was deployed on the sea bottom across the Kerch straight. The length of the backbone, including the sub-sea section, totals 46 kilometres, and the capacity is 110 Gbps. Capacity can be expanded significantly in the future.

TTK eyes Crimea telecom market

Russian operator TTK is thinking about entering the telecommunications market in the Crimea region, reports Prime, citing CEO Artyom Kudryavtsev. The operator believes the move would require an investment of around RUB 1 billion and require it to modify its capital expenditure programme for the year. Capex was previously set at RUB 12 billion for this year.

Datagroup claims 190,000 broadband subscribers

Ukrainian operator Datagroup has announced that its fixed broadband subscriber base grew by 7,000 in the first quarter of this year, reports ProIT. It had reached 190,000 at the end of March, and its fixed telephony subscriber base was 103,000. Its number of satellite broadband subscribers grew from 1,000 to 1,900. Datagroup provides services at up to 20 Mbps using the Ka band. Its total subscriber base reached 293,900 at the end of of the first quarter and ARPU was UAH 65.

Rostelecom raises e-document management subs base in Altay

Russian national operator Rostelecom announced that it has expanded the corporate subscribers base of its electronic document management services in the Altay region to 1,000 in April. Its business customers there receive all their documents from the operator in electronic format, approved using the electronic signature service. Rostelecom uses the Diadoc format from Russian company Kontur and the SBiS format from Russian company Tenzor to provide the service.

Rostelecom builds secure link to Crimea

Russian national operator Rostelecom has almost completed the subsea telecommunications link under the Kerch strait to Crimea, reports Kommersant. The line bypassing Ukraine is necessary for the Russian government's confidential communications. The investment cost is estimated to be RUB 400-900 million. The work was carried out by the operator itself.

Roskomnadzor to allocate bands in Crimea this summer

Russian federal telecommunications regulator Roskomnadzor plans to prepare the frequencies allocation plan for the Crimea region this summer, reports Comnews.ru. The regulator will then allocate bands in order for operators to bring services to the region. The regulator started setting up a regional Crimea branch earlier this April.

Ukraine operators allowed to provide services in Crimea

The government of the Crimea region won't stop Ukrainian mobile operators from providing services in the region, reports RIA Novosti citing Dmitriy Polonskiy, the regional minister of information and mass communication. Russian federal telecommunications regulator Roskomnadzor has started work on the opening of a regional branch in Crimea. The branch will include 11 staff members. Roskomnadzor currently has 70 regional units and 2,793 employees.
