Rovio revenues reach EUR 75 mln in 2011

Rovio Entertainment, creator of the Angry Birds franchise, announced a pretax profit of EUR 48.0 million on revenues of EUR 75.4 million for 2011. Rovio's three games - Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons and Angry Birds Rio - were downloaded a total 648 million times by the end of year 2011, and the company claims 200 million active monthly users. The number of employees at Rovio grew from 28 to 224 during 2011. Rovio expects further growth in 2012, as downloads are driven by new smartphone sales. The Finnish company plans to launch several more titles in 2012, including a non-Angry Birds title, CEO Mikael Hed told Reuters in an interview. Rovio is also expanding its brand to toys and playgrounds and is working on an animated movie featuring the characters. Consumer products, which includes merchandising and licensing, generated around 30 percent of Rovio's revenues last year.
