RTL refreshes online video offering as TV NOW

Media group RTL Germany has bundled its NOW video offering under the new TV NOW brand. This covers TV programmes from the six private channels RTL, Vox, n-tv, RTL Nitro, Super REL and RTL II. They will be available in long-form and as a live stream. Users will be able to watch the shows for free up to 30 days after initial broadcast on TV. They can also watch the daily series 'Good Times, Bad Times' for free on the same evening as it is broadcast and for seven days after.

As well as the free, ad-funded content, TV NOW also offers a subscription model called TV NOW PLUS for EUR 2.99 per month, which can be tested free for 30 days. This offers additional content and features, with users cable to access selected programmes before they are broadcast on TV. This version offers fewer ads, with all six channels available live on-demand on PC, tablet and smartphone.

The slogan is 'Watch what you want instead'. RTL is running television commercials worth EUR 20 million gross on its own channels, but the campaign will also run on the internet, radio and advertising screens in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.

GEE and RTL deliver TV content to 27 cruise lines

Global Eagle Entertainment (GEE) has announced an exclusive agreement with RTL International to provide a new German premium TV channel to cruise ships around the world. As part of the agreement, GEE will deliver RTL's German TV channel to 27 cruise lines and more than 130 ships serving about 10 million passengers a year.

Media group RTL Germany will acquire Smartclip, a online video advertising company. In an agreement with the current shareholders of Smartclip, Media group RTL Germany will acquire a 93.75-percent shareholding in Smartclip, with a call option to acquire the remaining shares.

RTL to launch new channel for older women

RTL will launch the new free-TV channel RTLplus on 4 June, offering old classic TV shows as well as new editions of old game shows, handelsblatt.com reports. The channel is aimed at elderly women over 45. This demographic watches 5 hours of television per day on average, two more hours than those aged between 14 and 49, according to Jan Peter Lacher, head of the new channel. The focus of RTLplus will be fictional highlights from the 1990s as well as new, own productions.

RTL Group reports record EUR 6.03 bln revenue for 2015

European entertainment network RTL Group has reported record revenue of EUR 6.03 billion for 2015, up 3.8 percent from EUR 5.81 billion in 2014, driven by increasing revenue at Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland, growing digital revenue and favourable exchange rate effects. RTL XL adds Chromecast support to iOS app

The free version of streaming video service RTL XL is now available also on Google's Chromecast. The service works with the latest version of the iOS app; Android devices are not yet supported. Subscribers to the paid version, RTL XL Premium, could also use the app with Chromecast. With the free version, ads are played on the smartphone or tablet while the video content is streamed via the Chromecast to the larger screen.

Media Group RTL Germany has reported strong figures achieved by the tenth series of 'I'm a celebrity, get me out of here'.
