Russia to spend RUB 90 bln on satellites for Arctic region

Russian Ministry of Communicatons and Mass Media said it will cost RUB 90 billion to launch a telecom satellite system to cover the Arctic region. The government plans to allocate RUB 50 billion for the project.

Russia needs special satellites to cover Arctic areas as traditional satellites are usually based above the equator.

State-owned satelite operator RSCC is expected to carry out the project.
