Russia VPN services refuse to cooperate with regulator

VPN services OpenVPN, VyprVPN, VPN Unlimited and TopGuard don't plan to cooperate with the Russian federal telecommunications regulator Roskomnadzor, reports Vedomosti citing representatives of the companies. On 28 March, the watchdog said that it sent messages to ten VPN services requiring them to connect to the state information system in order to block access to online resources prohibited in the country. The services have a month to respond to the demand.

Academy of Science to design VPN control system

The Russian Academy of Science will design a system to control and manage VPN-services, reports Vedomosti. A project will be carried out under the framework of a contract with the Principle Centre of Frequencies, controlled by telecom watchdog Roskomnadzor. The deal is worth a total of RUB 19.9 million. The deadline for designing the system will be December.
