Russian authorities move to block LinkedIn
Social network LinkedIn will be blocked in Russia, after a court found the company guilty of violating local data storage laws. Russia's federal telecommunications regulator Roskomnadzor said LinkedIn would be unavailable in the country within 24 hours.

Some internet providers have already cut access to the site, which has more than six million members in Russia. LinkedIn told the BBC it hoped to meet Roskomnadzor to discuss the block.

In 2014, Russia introduced legislation requiring social networks to store the personal data of Russian citizens on Russia-based servers. It is the first time the law has been enforced against a US-based social network.

Apple, Google removes Linkedin from app stores in Russia

Apple and Google have pulled the LinkedIn mobile application from their local application online shops in Russia following the government's demands to do so. The move comes after Russia blocked LinkedIn's website as punishment because the professional network does not store data on Russian citizens within the nation's borders, according to The New York Times. That is against Russian law. A LinkedIn spokesperson confirmed the application has been removed.
