Russian govt prepares ban on foreign telecom equipment

The Russian government plans to introduce a ban on the acquisition of imported servers and telecommunications equipment for state institutions and state-owned companies, reportd Cnews.ru. The draft document is expected to be prepared by 1 June.

The ban will go into effect in cases where Russian equivalent equipment is available. The draft law was initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The ban will also also cover foreign electronic document management, accountancy and HR management systems.

From 1 January of this year, Russian state institutions and state-owned companies hvae only been able to buy foreign software only if there was no Russian equivalents of if these don't correspond to government requirements.
