Rwanda's telecommunications regulator RURA has delayed the introduced of mobile number portability. The Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Agency said that it's putting the move on hold in order to allow current mobile operators to consolidate their market positions. The service was expected to be introduced this year. RURA's Director General Regis Gatarayiha told the Business Times the regulator has decided to postpone the introduction of the service to 2012 because the market is not yet ready, and the government would like to first see a 60 percent mobile market penetration. The country currently has a 36.2 percent mobile penetration, the second lowest in the East African Community region after Burundi.
