Samsung develops Tizen 3.0 smartphone - report

Samsung Electronics is developing a new smartphone that runs on the Tizen 3.0 operating system. Via this move, Samsung seeks to decrease its dependence on Google's Android platform, Yonhap news agency reports, citing unnamed industry sources. "Samsung has just begun the development of its first smartphone running on Tizen 3.0 OS," an unnamed source said. Dubbed the SM-Z250, the smartphone is internally known as ‘Pride’, the sources added.

Tizen is Samsung's OS for wearables, TVs and some low-budget smartphones from the Z-series, including the Z2 which was launched in August 2016. The Z2, powered by Tizen 2.4, was Samsung’s third Tizen-powered smartphone.

Samsung enables Microsoft .NET support for Tizen OS

Samsung Electronics signed a partnership agreement with Microsoft on open source projects, such as .NET Core and Xamarin.Forms, to enable .NET support for the Tizen open source operating system. Samsung launches Gear S3 smartwatch in South Korea

Samsung Electronics has launched its Gear S3 smartwatch in South Korea. The device can be used without synchronizing it to a smartphone due to its LTE chipset, The Korea Times reports. Samsung will offer the device in three variants – the Bluetooth version Gear S3 Frontier, the Gear S3 Classic and LTE version Gear S3 Frontier. All three models will be on sale through Korean mobile operators SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus.

Samsung to invest INR 20 bln to double Noida plant capacity

Samsung India plans to invest around INR 19.7 billion to double its production capacity at its Noida, Uttar Pradesh manufacturing facility by December 2019. Samsung will use this facility to export mobile phones and white goods.
